Joyce

Joyce – 420 lbs.

Joyce says that her excess weight affects her every day functions.  “Walking, cleaning house, taking care of my family, and having enough energy to get through a busy day as a caretaker for my elderly mother and two babies.  Just a day at the mall can put me in pain.  I want to be able to get down on my knees and clean out a cabinet or weed in the yard!  I want to go on a bike ride with my husband and grandchild, or at least take a walk around the block.  I can do none of these things.”

“I find myself being more reclusive and look for excuses to stay home.  I have always been a joyful and positive person, but now I like to be quiet and blend into a group instead of being myself. ”

“Most importantly, if I do not lose some weight soon, I will not have a future to look forward to.  I have a loving family and I want to be able to see my future grandchildren, watch them grow and play with them.”

Can’t believe summer (the season, not the HEAT) is almost over. It has been a time of “lots of company”! You know what that means? Eating out and snacks in the house!! I had Cheetos in my house this summer!! Yikes! Ha Ha!! No it wasn’t that bad, but it did not make for record weight loss either. The past month I have had a few weeks of gains and some good losses too. One week in July I lost almost 9 lbs. Then I gained almost 3, gained a couple ozs. and then last week lost almost 3 lbs. We are going on a family vacation in early November, well a long weekend at least, to Disney World. I want to be able to walk all day and maybe even “fit” on some rides!! Not the roller coasters! But some of those fun ones in Fantasy Land. We have not been in over 10 years! They may have all new rides! I had to stop walking outside this summer, just got too HOT! Even at night, I was walking at 10:30 PM hoping for a little coolness, didn’t happen. So I started taking my grandson to the Mall at least 5 days a week to walk. It has been fun! Never have been much of a shopper, so I feel so informed now that I know which stores are having the best sales. Oh yes! I walk every where, not just in the main mall. I have to say that the smell of “hot pretzels” is not a good motivator! I can’t wait for the nice weather to come back so that I can once again walk outside where the temptations are not an issue. But I would really like to buy some clothes from Coldwater Creek! So two big desires to keep me motivated! Clothes and a trip to Disney!

How is everyone doing on the new Meds.? I don’t like them!! At least this first week I don’t. I have not had as much energy, although the good part is that I am sleeping better. I have also noticed that I am not getting that “I am full” feeling. But the sleeping part is so much better, that it may be worth it!

I have had some good losses this month and then I gained a few too. Last week I lost a little over 6 lbs and two weeks ago, I lost almost 8 lbs. The bad news is that I gained in the middle… makes me so mad!! With the heat just too much for me, I have been walking at the mall. My little grandson and I try to go everyday. Pushing him in the stroller helps me with my posture.

I hurt my foot AGAIN!! I came rushing in the house after being on the wet porch, carrying the baby. Slipped on the tile!! Why is it always the same left foot that gets hurt? So that put a halt to my walking over the weekend. By Tuesday, it was well enough that I could resume walking. Sure hope it does not effect my weigh in tomorrow!

Haven’t checked in for a couple weeks. I have come to the conclusion that I am not like “normal people”!! I can’t eat a “carb” one day and think it doesn’t effect my whole week. That is so sad! “C” in the Clearwater office, (ha ha! they are all C’s”) said I should look at it like I am Allergic to carbs!!! Yuck!! I lost a few and gained a few and it is very discouraging.

I did try for the first time, the “Egg in a Mug” breakfast. Wow, I have been missing a convenience! I used the turkey sausage, laughing cow Swiss cheese, and egg beaters. Very good!! I like my eggs a little on the dry side, no “liguid”, so I cooked it a little longer than the recipe states. Tonight I am going to try the Chocolate Ricotta. Sounds Good, I hope it is!

I had a pretty good weigh in on Friday. I lost 3 pounds last week. This week end was a struggle! For me, family gatherings are probably my biggest area of weakness. Our family does not get together without it being a meal of some sort. I also have a hard time eating out and knowing what is the best thing to order. I am learning the tricks of special ordering my food and making the right choices, but it does not mean that I like it!! Ha ha!! This is a lifetime and lifestyle change! I guess I also better learn to like it!! Working toward another good weight loss this week…..

Hi, sorry I have not updated in a couple of weeks. I have had two bad weeks for weight loss. Dr. Lara and I talked this week and he reminded me of the great opportunity I have to participate in this program. I can choose to take advantage of it or choose to just be happy with my weight loss so far. I am choosing to take advantage of this gift and get my mind and my heart back into some serious discipline. One thing he said that really “hit home” with me; When things in our life are out of control, could be anything, finances, relationships, stress of any kind, I can choose to say, this one area I have control over!! I will choose to have peace and self control in this area in my life. I can choose to have better health!! I can choose to do something good for me! I deserve to have a body that will let me walk without pain! Some of my short term goals; to be able to walk the new beach walk at Clearwater Beach, I can do that now, play outside with my grandson, I can do that now, get off of my expensive meds, I am off one already, clean my house with out “huffing and puffing”, I can do that now too. But now it is time for some long term goals! I don’t want to be that complacent person who gains back the weight. I want to be the person who takes it off, lives life to the fullest, and keeps it off because I am just too happy to ever go back to the way I was at the beginning.

I have been having some good weight loss weeks and some not as good. This week I lost a little over 3 lbs. Last week I gained, so that messes up my average! I always feel more motivated the following week after a good weight loss. I finally got in to see the Podiatrist. I have a lovely bone spur on my right foot and a stress fracture on the outside/bottom of each of my feet! So that has slowed down my walking. I am now waiting for the ortho inserts that are supposed to make my feet better. I have never heard anyone that uses these things say something good about them! I pray they work for me though! Trying to keep my motivation and spirits high with “positive” thoughts and not let this issue with my feet get me down in the dumps.

    Fruity Mousse

    1 cup boiling water
1 pkg of your favorite flavor sugar free jello
1 cup plain 0% fat greek yogurt

Using your favorite flavor of sugar free jello, dissolve entire package in 1 cup boiling water. Using a whisk, thoroughly combine one cup plain 0% fat free greek yogurt into the hot mixture. Divide into two serving dishes. Refrigerate to gel, takes a couple of hours.

    Each recipe contains

130 calories, 0 fat, 7 gr carb., 19 gr protein and counts as 0.7 tsp sugar and 1.35 proteins. This recipe comes from Cathy at the Dunedin office.

I like the lime/pineapple/marshmallow dish that is an “old fashioned” jello recipe. So instead of one pkg of jello, I used 1/2 of each, a lime and a pineapple, and of course no marshmallows, but it did have the same flavors and was a nice substitute.

Dr. Leonhardt mentioned that it was good to go to bed with a protein snack instead of a higher carb or “empty” snack like jello.

Hey Connie… WOW… Can’t believe you are still PULLING THOSE BIG NUMBERS!!!! GREAT JOB!!!! What is your total loss???? What did Dr. Leonhardt share about the “protein” after dinner????? And what new recipes did you get, would you like to share??????

  8. Joyce says:

Finally on Friday’s weigh in I had a good loss! 7 lbs this Week!! Yeah!! Also this week I went to the Apples and Cheese meeting. It was so interesting and informative. Dr. Leonhard (spelling?) was the speaker this time and she answered so many questions for all of us. If you have not attended one of these, it is well worth your time. In addition to a wealth of new information, I got some new recipes. One of the staff from Dunedin shared some new ways to get in a protein after dinner, instead of an empty calorie snack like jello.

  9. Joyce says:

I feel like a Yo Yo! Two weeks ago I was down 2 and this week I was up a pound. Up and down! I am still having trouble with my feet. So I thought if I just walked faster for the same distance, instead of trying to walk longer that might help. I hope so. I think the struggle with walking and pain is contributing to my YO YO weight. I am going to the Apple and Cheese night this week. Hope to meet some of our readers there!
